6 hours later and we're finally home after spending most of the day at the clinic. they're notorious for running behind time, but having to wait almost 2 hours before even seeing the technician nearly had me walk out in a foul mood. hopefully it was worth the wait. my MRI results are back tomorrow. G's appointment was also tardy, but he's done with his pre-op stuff and ready for tomorrow's surgery.

the clinic is frighteningly efficient (despite terrible timekeeping), and everyone is very friendly and, more importantly, knowledgeable about their area. everyone throughout is dressed super casual -- very unlike DC -- and it was a really nice change. perhaps that's because everyone is well into the ski lifestyle and less about the corporate crap.

whilst hanging around the clinic which is also the Vail Valley Healthcare Center, several, unrelated parties of skiiers came in -- their friends had been rushed in by Mountain Patrol due to skiing and boarding accidents. i'm told it's very common and the clinic staff are well trained in emergencies, taking no chances and automatically giving CT scans etc as a matter of course. good to know.

our condotel (the moniker they give themselves) - the Mountainhaus - is excellent. the staff are brilliant. Katie, the concierge, drove us to Safeway, waited for us, and then took our groceries (10 bags) up to our condo and put everything away. Gareth drove us to our clinic appointment, and then Alison picked us up this evening - in her own car as the hotel's electric car was out of battery. the staff couldn't be friendlier or more accommodating.

it was a beautifully sunny (and warm!) day today. we spent this morning having coffee, sitting on a terrace at the bottom of a black run watching the skiers and boarders make their way down. no spills or tumbles today. i really love to see small children come down the black run - not a common sight, but when it happens it's really very cool to see. they make it look so effortless!!

snow is forecast for tomorrow - the locals and visitors are delighted. hmmm.

homecooking will start tomorrow, as will my remote working. tonight we are going to treat ourselves to dinner at an Italian bistro around the corner.
