Wedding presents....
We received two wedding invitations yesterday!
The first wedding is a good friend, Dhaval, who is getting married in May in Houston, Texas. The lucky and lovely groom is Sujit. It will be a traditional Indian wedding and knowing the style-guru bride, the wedding will be beautiful. I am really excited to be part of a traditional wedding -it begins at 8AM with the wedding ceremony, followed by lunch and then dinner with dancing. It will be a busy and long day!
The second wedding will be in Scotland and the beautiful bride will be my cousin, Clara. She is marrying Scott on the 23rd of May in Edinburgh -our hotels are booked, just need to sort out the flights.
Two very different weddings. What to wear??? In England we girls love to wear hats. I especially love to wear hats, and haven't had the opportunity in way too long! It will be hot in Houston and cool in Edinburgh -perhaps I need to get two wedding outfits? Oh, what a terrible shame.
Between us, G would rather I not wear any head attire -he suspects I will resemble either an old granny or a 5yr old playing dress-up. Or even worse, something inbetween the two. Pffffffffft. If he weren't so sartorially blessed I would happily ignore him. As it is, I will pay heed to his advice for all of 15 minutes and then ignore him.
Anyway, neither invitation came with a wedding list. That is good and bad. It leaves me with free choice of where to go and what to buy = good. It leaves me with nowhere to start and the potential to buy the most inavertently heinous wedding present ever = bad.
Here are some places I've been looking:
The Conran Shop - London and US. If you love homewares, this is a brilliant place to find goodies for the bride/groom, your friends, yourself. A set of globes for the couple who love to travel.
I love the idea of giving a tree as a wedding gift. If your friends don't have a garden, you can get the tree in a pot.
Fauna bowl with steel and wood-enamel contrast from Artisanti.
A lovely idea that a friend gave to my sister and brother-in-law was to give them the first night of their honeymoon in a fabulous hotel -brilliant!
If you're a group of friends putting in together, another great idea I heard of is to part-buy the honeymoon -you'll be with your best buddies on their honeymoon, but thankfully only in thought. Perhaps this is something parents might think about giving.
