it finally snowed! well, for about 2 hours anyway. it's due for more tomorrow and through the week, so fingers crossed there'll be at least enough to make snowmen. i seem to write a lot about the weather these days. must be because i'm british...

we went to dinner this evening at Osaki's, a very nice Japanese restaurant in Vail Village. It only seats 20 people max so a reservation is more or less a necessity. the food was lovely and creative but not too much that it was over the top.

one of the chef's spends his winters in Vail and his summers at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. We chatted about common friends in DC and he filled us in on the DC sushi scene gossip. small world.

i learnt a really interesting fact (to moi anyway) - in Vail where the altitude is high, rice needs to be soaked for at least one hour in winter, 30 minutes in the summer. in DC at sea level, no soaking is necessary. that was my fact of the day to share.

back to the food. we had yellowtail with jalapeno, seaweed salad, su-udon, red snapper/unagi/fatty tuna/sea urchin nigiri (not in combination though!). G finished with bacalao (cod) in a sweet fruity sauce, which he liked but it took a few bites for him to enjoy the sweetness.

so G is in a competition with a fellow patient at Howard Head Sports Clinic (where all Steadman-Hawkins patients go for rehab). his rival is a famous baseball player, and G is determined to beat him on the machine that measures one's leg flexibility. as of today, G is on 139, rival is on 147. i am trying to break it gently to G that his competitor is a world-class athlete and probably has a little bit more training experience under his belt. you know men though; apparently that's not enough of a reason. ahem. today a famous american footballer joined the rehab group - so i imagine the testosterone levels in the clinic must be through the roof. nice.
