planting out

today was high 60s and sunny. perfect day to do stuff in the garden. i gardened, others hung about sunbathing. we have a new planter trough in the garden - we had the wall raised about one foot, and have filled it with soil. just thinking about what to plant in there. it runs almost the entire length of the terrace and so there's plenty of room. i picked up some lavender (french), sweet italian basil and some rosemary. they're all potted and will hopefully take well. also got a tomato plant called early girl - maturation time is 54 days rather than closer to 70. fingers crossed. exciting news - the carrots, pomodoro toms and potatoes have all taken and they've produced shoots/leaves and what have you. i'll leave them all a bit longer before moving them to bigger homes. bad but not surprising news - the peas didn't take. i suppose planting fresh peas was a ridiculous idea, but at least i know now! the wisteria that graces our back stairs and terrace walls came into bloom the past week and hopefully we will have our annual abundance of beautifully smelling white blossoms in a week or two. it's my favourite part of the garden.
